Trainings Offered for Disaster Relief Volunteers

Disaster Relief efforts are only made possible through the generosity of the people that donate their time, energy, skill, talent and resources.
The following list represents opportunities for you to partner with Disaster Relief.

Chainsaw Training: This training covers the use and safety requirements for using a chainsaw during a disaster operation, maintenance of the saw and brush/limb pulling and cutting techniques. This will be class and “hands on” training. (Must have steel toe boots)

Chaplaincy Intro: This is the first stage of training for chaplaincy. You will learn about different types of chaplaincy, uniqueness, reason for chaplains in disaster, spiritual rational along with other ministry tasks.

Clean Up & Recovery: The objective of a cleanup and recovery team is to assist in the initial clean up after a disaster. The further objective is to assist individuals and churches in the recovery from the effects of a disaster. This may include Flood Mud-out/debris removal, Fire Ash-out/debris removal, temporary repairs, cleaning and ultimate repairs to restore individuals and churches to normal life.

DAC (Disaster Assistance Center): This is the first contact that we will have with the victims of the disaster. Good communication and listening skills are a must. Learn how to set up and assist at a DAC, how to use CBDR information forms along with how to be sensitive to victims needs.

Assessment: This is the stage of work that is done before actual clean-up action begins. The purpose of this is to assess the damage and consider how we as CBDR are able to assist with the work to be done. (Note: we are not doing the assessment for the insurance company). The assessment team is made up of at least 3 members (lead assessor, chaplain and person to complete assessment forms). This may be the first time the homeowner has seen their property after the disaster.

Driving Requirements: (using CBDR Vehicles and trailers) you will learn safety inspection procedures for vehicles, driving requirements and DOT requirements for our vehicles. Road test must be taken.

Mass Feeding: The primary mission of a mass feeding team is to feed and serve victims and relief workers during a disaster. A warm meal and cup of water in Jesus’ name may be the seed to the salvation of a soul. Training will provide guidance and information for disaster relief volunteers engaged in feeding operations to ensure that safe storage, handling, preparation and distribution of food to disaster clients and workers. (This is a 5 hour class)

Shower/Laundry: to provide shower and laundry units capable of meeting needs of relief works and others as needed. How to fulfill needs in a clean and sanitary environment. How to position a unit in an ample space, prepare unit for operation, prepare safe environment, prepare proper connections for propane gas use, and how to staff unit for possible 24 hour operation.

Command Center Admin: this area is set up either in a church, community building or our mobile command unit. It is a complex area where all details for planning and operations take place including putting together our daily work assignments, PIO contacts, agency and Formstack reports. You will learn the proper way to do the procedures, keep track of all volunteers and equipment throughout a deployment.
